Talk to me. Laugh with me. Create with me.

We’ve made it over a third of the way through No Buy February!  Who’s still with me?  I must admit, the first week was pretty easy.  I was feeling very motivated by my self-issued challenge, and overly confident in my newfound restraint.

But this weekend the reality started to set in.  I caught a glimpse of a new style of jeans from TopShop, walked past a super cute sweater in the window of & Other Stories, and got caught up in some of the NYFW streetstyle shots that have flooded my Instagram feed.

A couple of times I went to a website and instinctively started shopping.  What if I just bought one thing and didn’t wear it until March?  And by “not wearing it until March” I mean just wearing it around the house.  Or maybe just not photographing it…

But I resisted.  Mainly because I’m the one who started this challenge and if I can’t even make it halfway through the month then that’s just sad.

So, here’s what the last ten days have looked like for me in terms of purchases.  I had one trip to the grocery store, two nights of takeout, and one week of HelloFresh and another of BlueApron (arriving today).  Other than those necessary food purchases I also restocked vitamins for my hair (Viviscal) and bought a few bottles of wine.  I know wine isn’t exactly necessary, but I’m not allowed to shop for clothes right now, so I need some joy in my life.

In lieu of shopping I have been spending some quality time with my closet.  I’ve rediscovered old items, found some that still had the tags, and tried to look at a few of my old standbys in a fresh way.  These photos are just a few of the looks I’ve put together that don’t involve any new purchases.

My biggest piece of advice when shopping your closet is to first take inventory of everything you have.  No matter how large or small your wardrobe may be, it’s easy for some things to get lost in the shuffle or shoved in the back of a drawer.  Remind yourself of everything with which you have to work.  Once you know what you have then you can find new ways to style it all.

Has anyone taken a closet inventory lately?  What are your tips for getting the most out of the wardrobe you currently have?  Let me know in the comments below.  And for those of you who are still on board with No Buy February, way to go!  We’ve got this!
