Talk to me. Laugh with me. Create with me.

As the old saying goes, fake it ‘til you make it!  As I mentioned in my last post, life is quite challenging right now and motivation is not exactly high.  So, I thought about what the exact opposite would be of what I’m currently feeling, and that is a picnic.

(Though in all honesty it would really be lounging on a beach in Bali or the Maldives, but this needed to fit a slightly smaller budget.  Plus, the private jet wasn’t gassed up in time.  Don’t you just hate when that happens?)

So, we slapped on some smiles, packed up a basket, grabbed the dog, and hit the nearest park in Brooklyn.  When life gets tough it’s the little things that keep you going.  And if eating a sandwich on a blanket while watching your labradoodle scarf down grass brings a little joy, then just go with it.

All of this has me thinking about what little things I can do to help keep my sanity during this extremely stressful and frightening time.  It’s so easy to sit around all day thinking of all the bad things that could happen, but that is not only unhealthy it also doesn’t help anyone.

It truly is about the little things.  You don’t need to come up with one great event to make yourself feel better, just practice a little self-care (which is always easier said than done).

If I have the extra money to spend these are the little things I will do to bring some joy:

  1. Get a manicure and pedicure
  2. Have a massage
  3. Go to a yoga class
  4. Get a facial
  5. Take a long lunch with a friend, cocktails preferred

Right now, I’m on a pretty tight budget so most of those options aren’t realistic.  So, these are my go-to options that don’t cost anything:

  1. Take the dog for a long walk, or just take a walk myself
  2. Grab a book and sit in the park or by the river
  3. Practice meditation (at which I completely fail but need to try to improve)
  4. Watch a silly or funny movie
  5. Call an old friend for a long catch-up session

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic!  What do you do to practice self-care or to help yourself get through the difficult times?  Let me know in the comments below!

Have a great week, everyone!
